LVT Myths Busted
If you have spent any time scrolling through home renovation ideas, you will have seen the letters LVT popping up everywhere.
Luxury vinyl tiles have become one of the most popular flooring choices in modern homes, but with popularity comes gossip, and with gossip comes myths.
So let us clear things up before your neighbour Dave tells you he knows better because he once watched an episode of DIY SOS.
Before we start, what exactly is LVT?
Luxury vinyl tile is a multi-layered flooring product designed to mimic natural materials, such as wood, stone, and ceramic. It is tough, warm underfoot, low maintenance and available in a huge range of styles. Think of it as the undercover agent of the flooring world; it appears to be the real deal, but it has superpowers hidden beneath.
Time to bust some myths…
Myth 1: LVT looks cheap .
The truth is that LVT has come a very long way in recent years. Modern manufacturing uses high definition prints and detailed surface embossing to create finishes that look incredibly close to real wood, stone or ceramic.
Today’s LVT is stylish, convincing and often more consistent in appearance than the natural materials it imitates. Cheap looking? Absolutely not.
Myth 2: LVT is not compatible with underfloor heating.
Incorrect, LVT is actually an excellent heat conductor and works happily with both electric and water-based underfloor heating systems.
It warms up quickly, distributes heat evenly, and because it is not a cold, brittle surface like tile, you avoid that first thing in the morning freeze that makes you wish you could go back to bed.
If cosiness is high on your wishlist, LVT is a winner.
Myth 3: One scratch will ruin the whole floor.
We all fear the rogue dining chair or the heavyweight sofa being dragged by someone who swears they are lifting it. But no, a scratch will not destroy your LVT floor or your will to live.
LVT is designed to be tough, long-lasting and highly resistant to everyday wear. In many cases it outperforms real wood because it is less prone to scoring or surface damage.
Accidents can still happen of course, especially with heavy furniture settling in over time. The good news is that, unlike some flooring types where you need to replace a huge area to fix one problem, LVT is made up of individual planks or tiles. If you do get damage, you can simply replace the affected piece.
Myth 4: You cannot have patterns with LVT.
If you think LVT can only be laid straight and simple, think again.
Popular installation patterns include straight lay, offset or staggered, diagonal, and the ever loved herringbone. Modern LVT gives you design freedom without the complications of working with real timber or stone.
Whether you love a classic plank layout or want something bold and stylish, there is a pattern to suit every taste.
LVT is one of the most versatile, practical and good-looking flooring options available today. It is great with underfloor heating, resilient to wear, repair friendly and capable of delivering stunning design options. The myths around it are just that, myths.
If you want flooring that looks fantastic and stands up to the realities of everyday life, LVT might be exactly what you are after.
And if you still have questions, pop in.
